I had no idea where I wanted these. Originally, I wanted them on the side of the garage, behind that tree. Jim said "No" to that one because, I guess, Lilac bushes have deep, big roots and can grow under and into the foundation of a building, causing damage and need of removal.
I did NOT want that expense!
So plan B. I didn't have a plan B! Now what.
Well, I leaned up against Jim's truck (you can see the shadow of that in this picture) and pondered my yard. My small yard. My "we-just-paid-for-and-put-in-sod" yard. The new sod was in the front yard and along the edge of the drive way here.
What about if I planted them by the power pole? It will hide the ugly pole and the yellow cable protector, and it will maybe give us some privacy. You can see that the road is right there, at the bottom of the picture.
Confession: When I get an idea in my head, and it seems like a good idea for the first 5 minutes of thinking about it, I go with it. There ain't no stopping me!
So, as you can see in the picture, this is where I planted my Lilac bushes. I dug the hole about 12in down, put some broken egg shell pieces in the bottom (I heard this helps things grow better!) and put the twig-of-a-baby-shrub in! I hope it's a good spot.
I hope Jim thinks so, too. And I hope the power company has no complaints.
My wise and all-knowing Jimmy is off picking up his new lift, so I couldn't ask him. Plus, I think he was going to be against anywhere in the yard for my shrubs. He is not a fan of Lilac's after having to dig up some roots before that were about to wreck his foundation. So this was my hurry-up-and-plant-them-before-Jim-comes-home opportunity.
Crossing my fingers AND toes that these turn out great!
