I made his favorites tonight: steak and corn-on-the-cob. I, of course, wanted one of my favorite side dishes: roasted red potatoes. His ears, eyes, fingers, and toes lit up when I told him I had steak going on the grill.
I tried to be fancy with the steak and marinate it. Usually, we just plop the steak on the grill with some salt, pepper, and steak seasoning. This time, I marinated the steak with Italian dressing, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and Heinz 57.
Ya know, I'd rather stick to my "plain" ways, and just throw the salted-peppered-steak seasoned slab on the grill. I think I'll do that going further. Don't fix what isn't broken, right?
I grilled the corn on the grill in it's husk. It wasn't quite done, so I nuked it in the microwave on a wet paper towel still in it's husk. That worked!
For the potatoes, I just cube up some red spuds, toss them in some olive oil and basil, place on some tin foil, wrap it up, and placed it too on the grill. These weren't done when the steaks were done either, so I nuked them on a plate for a few more minutes.
I made 3 servings of this meal. While we were eating, I asked James if I should bring my dad the other serving. He protested. He wanted that serving to himself, too. And he should! He works hard enough for 2 men.
That's why I love him.
