Mmmm. Sloppy Joes...
It's such a simple and easy meal. And it fits right in with Summer.
Plus, I had a whole bunch of buns to use up from the Church, so I needed this meal. Does that sound dramatic? Opps.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with Manwich or anything, but there is something special about making your own sloppy joes. They taste better... they don't have a bunch of ingredients that I can't pronounce... and I get to use up some things in my kitchen.

Now, there might be several GREAT ways to make homemade Sloppies, but this is the one I went with tonight!
First step is to brown a pound or two of beef. I did 2lbs cause James eats... a lot.
Second step is to chop up an onion and add it to the beef. Also add 3/4 cup water. Cook this mix until the onions are soft, maybe 5 minutes.

Time to add the ketchup! Since I did 2lbs of beef, I added 1 cup of ketchup.
I also added a little yellow mustard for some zing! Shh though, don't tell James, cause he hates mustard! (But loved these Sloppies...)
Spices time.
I used 1tsp. chili powder, a dash of pepper, and a dash of salt. I even added some red pepper flakes for a kick - but not a lot, as I am not a spicy fan...

This is where I went a little on my own here. I added about 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce for some "honey" flavor, but I also added 1/2 cup brown sugar.
Mmmm... mix it all up!
Let this mix simmer for about 10 minutes, until all the liquids are nice and combined with the meat mix.

Serve on Church buns for some extra holiness.
Or regular buns, if you're out of Church buns.
Add a veggie to the side to make this a wonderful meal!
(Ps. It's totally optional to serve this on a paper plate, but in Ashley's world, it's a must. No dishes! What could be better?)
